About Us
Formerly known as NamWah Wushu Lion Dance Kangkar Pulai Johor Malaysia, established 32 years ago in year 1989. Since its establishment, it has been adhering to the promotion of the Chinese culture, carrying forward the Dragon and Lion Dance as the goal, exploring activities that contribute to youth activities, and gradually expanding the field of activity.
NamWah Wushu Lion Dance Kangkar Pulai Johor Malaysia was founded by Hon Nam Seng, Yong Yii Yaak, Wong Wen Yeong, Lee Yung Hon and others, providing young generation a platform to train and keep healthy. This is also an opportunity for us to preserve traditional Chinese Culture.
At the beginning of its establishment, NamWah Wushu Lion Dance Kangkar Pulai Johor Malaysia was mainly formed by local youths and there were only a dozen members. In May 1997, Gao Zhuang Lion Dance was established and attracted more people. With the participation of young people, the number of members increased to nearly forty. Under the guidance of teachers and the continuous hard work of the members, the team finally won the national championship in the national competition at the end of 1998 and qualified to represent Malaysia, and participated World Lion Dance Competition in Hong Kong in year 1999. With the superb skills of our team members, we beat the experts from all over the world and finally won the championship. After that, we are named as the “Lion King” which is an international reputation!
